Plastics on Beaches

Speaker:  Ben Davidson, PhD candidate, Civil & Environmental Engineering, UW–Madison

While the manufacture and use of plastics is a recent development in geologic and environmental time scales, the impact of plastic pollution is expected to be long lived in Earth’s geological record. Plastic pollution contaminates the oceans across the globe, and the full ramifications of this spread are still unknown. As an important issue receiving lots of attention, there is an explosion of research and information on the topic of plastic pollution. In this talk, Davidson will explore one of the biggest questions related to ocean plastic pollution, ‘where does it go?’, by investigating the transport and fate of plastic debris on beaches.
