Dr. Samuel G. Younkin received his PhD in epidemiology from Case Western Reserve University and completed his postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He currently leads the Initiative for Health-Oriented Transportation (HOT) within the Climate Solutions for Health Lab led by Dr. Jonathan Patz. As part of his research he creates and analyzes population-level models of the link between active travel (walking and cycling) and public health. His work emphasizes the tremendous population health gains that can be made by incorporating more active travel into routine travel behavior, a co-benefit of many climate change mitigation policies. It is his hope that his work will inspire communities and planners to invest more in transportation networks that enable safe active travel options.
