Students from Burivalova lab featured in PBS Wisconsin piece on data science

Tatiana Maeda and Yuren Sun, both students in Zuzana Burivalova’s Sound Forest Lab, are featured in a PBS Wisconsin “Meet the Lab” video about how scientists use big data to count how many animals are in a forest.

Maeda is a PhD student who earned a master’s degree in the Nelson Institute’s Environmental Conservation program. Sun is an undergraduate student majoring in computer sciences and economics.

“Meet the Lab” is a collection of educational resources made for middle school science classrooms. Previous videos have covered virology, cancer, the nervous system, and antibiotics.
